Mothers and daughters

When I was an Intermediate School Principal, I spotted a young lady appearing rather gloomy as she walked down the hall.

Me: Are you okay? You look pretty sad.

Girl: Yes sir I'm okay...I guess...sorta...no my puppy died this morning.

Me: I'm sorry. I love dogs and am never without one. They are members of the family.

Girl: Uh huh...she was family to me.

Me: I know. It's okay to be sad.

Girl: You are so nice. I just don't know why my mother doesn't like you.
